Type Design I – II

lecturer: Mgr. Lukáš Pevný

In Type design Course students first learn from the history and classification of type. Consequently they learn to construct glyph of different styles, getting experience with calligraphy. The goal is to construct the glyph in vector editor. After this initial experience students choose the theme for authorial type design and create their complete set. Design can be classical or experimental. Most common it is vector drawing of glyphs organized into the type set in form of computer font. There is also option to make the set by hand, working in time and space, could be a generative experiment or otherwise. Finished type sets are designed for the specific students’ projects. Fonts created in this courses are presented at the MUNI typefoundry at https://typefoundry.fi.muni.cz/.
